METONYM: A Collective for Collaborative Culture

Metonym is a record label and arts collective experimenting with how communities create meaning together through sound. We strive to blend music, event design, and cultural research into a living ecosystem — where artists, audiences, and spaces collaborate to generate the work that we release.

We started Metonym because we love making music and happenings with friends and wanted a way to share it that felt human, not transactional. We don’t know exactly where it’s going — that’s part of the point. Rather than functioning as a traditional label, Metonym operates as an ecology.

Artists retain autonomy while participating in shared releases, gatherings, and projects that blur the line between performance, installation, and ritual. The aim is not only to release music, but to model new modes of cultural participation — intimate, regenerative, and inclusive.

Each Metonym event is both a showcase and a social experiment: how can collective creativity feel and how will this empower us? How does culture evolve when everyone in the room contributes to it? Metonym’s releases, residencies, and gatherings form a continuous inquiry into the future of music-as-community — an attempt at cultivating what Brian Eno called "scenius" in real time.

We’re not chasing scale; we’re cultivating coherence. The goal isn’t to amass an audience but to activate one—to send people back into their neighborhoods and studios with more courage, more connection, and a clearer sense that culture is something we make together.

Metonym stands for music that stands for more.
